A wonderful group of members joined us for our 2019 International Seniors Bonus Event in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The event featured of three rounds of golf at The Club at Las Campanas, private tours at the Allan Houser Sculpture Garden and School for Advanced Research (SAR), and a themed dinner experience at the Bonanza Creek Ranch.
Thank you to all of the members who attended. It was truly a fun and memorable experience for all!
Day 1 – Sunday (Opening Dinner): Our group arrived at the Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi, which we found to be a wonderful respite that truly celebrated the spirit of the Southwest. After settling in, we traveled to The Club at Las Campanas where we enjoyed our welcome cocktail and dinner reception.
Day 2 – Monday (first round of golf): The first full day featured golf on the Sunrise Course of The Club at Las Campanas. Our field of 12 four-person teams took part in a shotgun event. The team of Mike Lane, Alex Duhamel, Ignacio Gomez-Urquiza and Miguel Ruiz Buelna took the top spot with a two best-ball net score of 123 (-21). Carol McBride, Cheryl Hine, Bert Winther and Jose Gomez Canibe finished second at 126 (-18), which was one shot ahead of John Mikkelsen, Steve Chernock, Mickey Sutfin and Keith Hynes.
Joe Johnson, David White, Gary Rathburn and Stephen Lombardo, MD turned in a strong fourth-place performance (129), while two teams made up of Jeff Anderson, Darlene Anderson, Jose Gomez Canibe and Paloma Gomez as well as Suzanne Bonafede, Weezie Davis, Sue Kelley and Paloma Gomez – were T5 with scores of 132.
Following our round of golf, we joined our non-golfing members at The Club at Las Campanas for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before we returned to the Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi.
Day 3 – Tuesday (second round of golf… rain shortened): We set out to compete on the Sunset Course of The Club at Las Campanas. Most of the groups were well into their second nine when Mother Nature made a move with some prodigious thunder and rain, ending our round early. The group moved into the Clubhouse for an extended cocktail party complete with an ISAGS raffle that made many of the players very happy.
Day 4 – Wednesday (off day… tours and Bonanza Creek Ranch):The group enjoyed a day off from golf so that we could partake in tours of the Allan Houser Sculpture Garden and School for Advanced Research (SAR). Special thanks toDarlene andJeff Anderson for arranging these private tours for our members.
One group visited the Allan Houser Sculpture Garden, which proved to be the perfect introduction to the art of Allan Houser who is one of the most renowned Native American painters and Modernist sculptors of the 20th century. His work can be found at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., and in numerous major museum collections throughout North America, Europe and Japan.
Others traveled to the School for Advanced Research (SAR), one of North America’s preeminent independent institutes for the study of anthropology, related social sciences, and humanities. SAR is home to the Indian Arts Research Center, one of the nation’s most important Southwest Native American art research collections.
The day concluded with an Old West style dinner at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, an all-inclusive film location nestled in the foothills of northern New Mexico. The ranch is spread out over several thousand acres and features ponds, a movie town and home sets. More than 130 movies, as well as various videos, commercials and catalog shoots have been filmed here.
The evening at the Bonanza Creek Ranch provided us with outstanding entertainment, food and service as well as memorizing views. The photo below came courtesy of John Mikkelsen.
Day 5 – Thursday (third round of golf, closing dinner): Players around early for an outstanding breakfast at Las Campanas followed by a blue-ribbon day for a round of golf on the Sunset Course at The Club at Las Campanas.
