The 2020 Mid-Winter Championship will be heading to Killarney Golf & Fishing Club on June 6-13, 2020. It will mark the second time that the International Seniors Golf Society has visited this historic venue and only the third time dating back to 1962 that this group has explored the spectacular sights of Ireland.

In June, our members will visit Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, which is regarded as one of Ireland’s most prestigious and historic golf venues in all of Ireland. The club is “nestled within Ireland’s largest National Park on the shores of Lough Leane with stunning vistas of the highest mountain range in the country – the McGillicuddy Reeks.”

The Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, which features two of Ireland’s best-known 18-hole championship golf courses – Killeen and Mahony’s Point – has hosted many high-profile events such as four Irish Opens, the European Amateur Team Championship, the Curtis Cup and the Ladies Cup Championship among many other great events.

Killeen, which played host to the Irish Open on four separate occasions, offers both spectacular lakeside scenery and challenging golf to players of all levels, with water features on nearly every hole.

Mahony’s Point offers spectacular views of the famous Killarney Lakes overlooked by the McGillicuddy Reeks, the highest mountain range in Ireland. The final three holes are breathtaking as you play towards the lake with the 18th hole described as ‘one of the most memorable holes in golf’.

Our nights will be spent at the five star The Europe Hotel & Resort in Killarney, which is beautifully located overlooking the world famous Lakes of Killarney. The Europe Hotel & Resort is one of the leading luxury hotels in not just Killarney, but in all of Ireland. It is in the beautiful grounds of this luxurious and decadent spa resort that the waters of Killarney’s largest lake, Loch Léin, reflect the wilderness of Co. Kerry’s magnificent McGillycuddy Reeks mountain range in the scenic South West of Ireland.

Leisure time will take us through the quaint town of Killarney, located in County Kerry in the south of Ireland as well as into surrounding towns and communities. Day trips might include excursions to the Killarney National Park, the Lakes of Killarney Muckroos Abbey, Gap of Dunloe, Torc Mountain and St. Mary’s Cathedral. Other popular stops include The Ring of Kerry, which is perhaps the best-known driving route in all of Ireland, as well as the scenic town of Dingle and the Dingle Peninsula.

The 2020 Summer Championship will take our members to Quinta do Lago which is located in Algarve, Portugal. Just this month, the resort was recognized by Golf Digest as a recipient of its ‘2019 Editors’ Choice Award for the Best Resorts in Continental Europe’.

The facility features three outstanding golf courses – North, South and Laranjal – which will provide our members with a variety of challenges during our visit.

The North Course was redesigned in 2014 by the renowned architect Beau Welling, together with European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley. The new layout has been built to the highest specifications as four sets of tees were introduced on each hole to accommodate players of all levels.

The South Course is the crown jewel of Quinta do Lago. Designed in 1974 by William Mitchell, who introduced American-standard greens, tees and bunkers to the Algarve. A favorite among European tour players, the 6,500 metre par 72 is set among umbrella pines, lakes and wild flowers, overlooking the serene Ria Formosa National Park.

Laranjal opened in 2009 and was voted Best Golf Course at the Portuguese 2011 Travel Awards. The challenging course features a distinctive rolling terrain that has been expertly designed and manicured to provide a world-class golf experience.
